Watch This Dog Toy Video: The Emotional Range of Dogs
At Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique we believe in something called anthropomorphism. A long word that means assigning human qualities to animals. When we see dogs smile we believe they are happy. When we see dogs frown we believe they are sad. When you give a dog his favorite dog toy, chances are he’ll be showing off the pearly whites.
This video captures this concept of anthropomorphism. It shows a Dachshund dog, Finn, being reunited with one of his particularly favorite squeaker toys. Apparently, Finn adored this dog toy as a puppy. In the video, Finn makes the classic dog whine when he sees the toy again. The dog paws and chews at the pig with gentle familiarity.
Whether or not the dog is behaving this way out of sentience or because he possesses a complex emotional spectrum is not really important. What is important, is that when Finn sees the dog toy he reacts. His reaction is interesting to us because we perceive it as a cute humanistic trait. Everything else is conjecture. We also promise to never be this philosophical again. We just really liked Finn and his ‘love’ for his pig dog toy.
