Keep Calm and Enjoy the Fireworks this Memorial Day

As our favorite season rolls in, so do some of our favorite holidays. Memorial Day is the unofficial start of the summer and such a fun day to enjoy activities in the sun with your fur baby! For us, fireworks are the highlight of the night, but our pets are terrified of them. The loud noises and bright lights the fireworks make can be a little scary for our pups, so here are a few tips on how to keep calm and enjoy the fireworks this memorial day:

Keep Your Dog Away From Fireworks

Avoid having your dog around the fireworks at all costs. Leave your pup at home, inside, while you go out and enjoy the fireworks show. You can even leave the TV on or some music to distract your dog from any background noise the fireworks may leave.

Create a Safe Place for Your Pup

If possible, stay home at night with your dog and comfort them while the fireworks are taking place. If you’re going to leave your fur baby alone while the fireworks are happening, create a calming and comforting environment beforehand. Try setting up a quiet space away from the window. Include your fur babies\’ favorite toy and their bed.

Caution: HOT

Be cautious of your dog around the BBQ grill. While grilling burgers and hot dogs, your pup is bound to get excited from smelling all the tasty food cooking. Make sure to keep your dog away from the grill to prevent them from jumping up on it or putting their nose on the grill. Dogs tend to get sneaky when it comes to food so don’t underestimate them when it comes to grilling!

Bug Spray & Sunscreen

Bug spray and sunscreen are essentials for us but harmful to our pups. Sunscreen contains zinc oxide and/or para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), these chemicals are not safe for dogs. So when you’re applying sunscreen and bug spray on yourself, be careful not to do it around your dog! Also, don’t let your dog lick your skin before the sunscreen and bug spray has dried.
