Pet News: Hero Dog Saves Dozens from Gas Leak

Pet News: Dog is A Hero

Earlier this month an unexpected hero emerged into the pet news headlines. Kailey, a Shepherd mix rescue dog is responsible for saving the lives of dozens. Kailey\’s owner, Suzy Chandler, said that her dog was barking and acting strange when she pulled Chandler over to a side yard where Chandler could smell fumes and heard the whooshing noise of a gas leak. She immediately called 911.

Firefighters and rescue responders appeared at the scene and monitored the air around a nearby apartment where many children live. Kailey is deservingly credited with saving the lives of dozens from the potentially dangerous gas leak.

Kailey\’s story is also worthy of pet news. The poor dog sat on DeKalb Animal Shelter\’s adoption list for nearly a year before she finally found a shelter home with Jacqueline Berlin. The poor dog was nearly euthanized. Kailey\’s problem was that she had a troubled past and would snap at people she didn\’t know when they tried to touch her. Besides this, she is clearly and a very sweet dog that just needs some time adjusting.

Kailey was socialized by Berlin and eventually adopted into the loving home of Suzy Chandler. “The story of what she had been through, it just pulled on our heartstrings, we just thought we would be the perfect people for her,” said Chandler to pet news interviewers. “It was a perfect match.”

Kailey\’s new owners are urging more people to adopt this year especially in the months after the holidays when many are returning dogs they received as Christmas gifts to DeKalb animal shelter. Their aim is for Kailey\’s story to reach others through pet news and maybe give a chance to some dogs who faced exactly what Kailey faced. “If you have the space, you have room in your heart to take in a needy animal, to love on them, I mean it comes back to you tenfold,” said Chandler.
