Dakota Risner – Durant, OK
Dakota has been in the grooming business her whole life. Her grandmother, Marie, owned a pet store and she worked there since high school. “I have a really strong connection with dogs. I’ll walk through a shelter with dogs labeled as anxious, or that bite, nobody can touch them. They come right up to me.”
People have that ability, something inside them that shows the dogs they are safe. Dogs can see this, and they know we love them. That’s why Dakota owns her Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique–for the dogs.
“I’ve been volunteering in the rescue community for years. I got all five of my dogs from rescues. It’s great because we can host adoption days in the parking lot.” Dakota’s shop even has a cat enclosure that cat rescue agencies use to adopt out cats. The Durant dog rescue, Trixie’s Saving Grace began with Dakota’s own dog aptly named Trixie. “I’m excited to have a shop that can help the community.”
Currently, Dakota is hosting four dogs at home, who are all rescues. An English Mastiff named Cleo, two Dachshunds named Gillian, Ressie, and the dog inspired her to start her non-profit, Trixie. Trixie is a Shepherd Lab mix. When you come into Dakota’s shop you know you feel the love in the air.
“I’m really good with the anxious dogs, we can get them calm and relaxed before we start grooming. I love them all so much.”
