Pit Bull Puppies Change People’s Minds about the Unpopular Breed

Pet News: Pit Bulls Need to Stop Getting Blamed

Pit Bulls, or really Pit Bull Terriers, or really American Staffordshire Terriers get a really bad rap. Around the mid-80’s it became a popular pet news theme for reporters to write articles on these attacks, when previously before this time, headlines like these were nonexistent, according to pet news writer Jon Bastian. The origins of the “Pit Bull,” or “Bull Dog” come from an archaic sport that was practiced around the time of 11th century in England. Dogs were trained to latch down on the nose of a bull, and thus the name “Pit Bull,” and “Bull Dog” emerged.

Another contending pet news theory about the origins of the “Pit Bull” name deviation is from the Mastiffs of the Roman Empire being called “bullenbeissers” which translates to “bull biter.”

Because of unfortunate circumstances that have nothing to do with the dog, like dog fighting becoming popular again the 1980’s, and an incident where a pit bull trained to guard a marijuana crop in California mauled a two-year-old, pit bulls were demonized in the American mindset. When pet news articles like this are highly publicized without the proper context it leads to laws like Montreal Banning Pit Bulls entirely.

This is why Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique brings you today’s pet news viral video, “People With A Fear Of Dogs Meet Pit Bull Puppies.” The video was uploaded by BuzzFeedYellow and shows contestants being blindfolded and then handed a few Pit Bull puppies. Instead of shrieking and running away in terror, they said things like, “He’s so warm I just want to marry him,” and “Oh my God, they’re so happy and peaceful.”

This is great pet news for this unpopular breed that became vilified for situations that humans put the dogs into, and not the other way around.

Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique doesn’t often get too overly serious about political issues, but we love dogs, all dogs, and thought this would be a great time to shed some light on these issues.
