10 Fun Pet Store Facts You’ll Be Surprised to Know

Never Lose at Pet Store Trivia with These 10 Facts

Whether you work at a pet store, come up against animal trivia, or just want to know more about the animals in your home this video illuminates some of the fuzzy areas of knowledge. They might even some of the debate circling around your neighborhood pet store.

At Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique we aim to carry the responsibility of ensuring that outdated and harmful information is corrected. Misinformed pet owners and even dog groomers can possibly hurt an animal, or even worse. As leaders in the communities our shops are located in, we strive to educate the public on making the best choices for their animals.

  1. Dogs drink water forming the back of their tongue into a cup.
  2. Spiked dog collars originated in Ancient Greece and were designed to protect dog’s throats from wolf attacks.
  3. A dog’s wet nose is essential for detecting scents.

  5. Dogs do not enjoy hugs. They may perceive it a sign of affection, but they would much rather lick your face!
  6. Dogs can see in color. They see in a blue and yellow spectrum and cannot differentiate between red and green.
  7. Dogs can smell disease. They have the incredible ability to recognize the smell of a range of organic compounds that show that the human body isn’t working as it should.
  8. Dogs dream. In fact, small dogs dream more than bigger dogs and have the same brain waves during humans during deep sleep.
  9. Dogs have three eyelids. On upper, one lower, and a Nictitating Membrane that keeps the eye moist.
  10. Dogs only sweat through the pads of their feet.

From your local mom and pop pet store, Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique, we hope you enjoyed the video and learned something valuable.

How Your Life Will Change After Getting a Cat

Walk Into a Pet Store, Walk Out a Changed Person

There are a lot of things inside pet stores that change lives. Well, maybe not your life, but definitely your animal’s life. If you go to a Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique and buy your dog a Red Barn filled bone, then give it to them. Trust us, if your dog spoke the English language they would be screaming, “My! Life! Is! Better!” (Translation of Barking and, or, tail wagging/licking of face).

The Red Barn bones are life-changing for dogs. But what about you? What could you find in a pet store that would change your life?

The answer is simple: a cat.

(If you do decide to get a cat at a pet store, please make sure they are reputable pet store and are not getting animals from a kitten or puppy mill). Thank you and now back to the video.

Ok, so we found the funniest and most truthful video uploaded by YouTube BuzzFeed that shows what one man’s life aptly titled, “Before Vs. After Getting A Cat.” The video features all the daily things everyone does with-and-without a cat. Things like typing on a computer, with a glass of water, readily available and within close reach to cure thirstiness.

Without a cat, this seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do. But after a trip to the pet store and returning home with a cat, these days may be over. You won’t be able to sit down and answer an email without a clumsy feline walking over your keyboard and knocking things over.

That’s a cat’s way of showing you they want attention.

We love it!

We at Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique hope you enjoy the video as much as we do.

Jaime Meyer who owns the Splash and Dash Coppell, Texas location tells us, “The bones are great for their dental health, and will keep them occupied for longer than the average chew.” This is important when buying chews and bones because you’ll want to get the most for your money.

Dogs are naturally curious creatures and even the most well-behaved dog gets bored and might have a “go” at your favorite shoes or purse. To avoid all this drama walk your dogs regularly, and provide them with digestible chews that taste great, provide nutrition, and dental health.

Pet Supplies reviews across the board from canines and their human parents alike all love the filled bones.

The Bully Sticks are great because of the different options a pet parent could buy. “Some customers buy small ones on their weekly visits to make it more enjoyable,” said Meyer.

Giving your dog a Bully Stick is great because it reinforces good behavior while being groomed and contributes healthy nutrition to your dog’s rotational diet.

Dog and Kitten Share Water Bowl

Pet Supplies Can be Shared in this Cute Video

The rivalry is older than the Hatfield Vs. McCoy feud of the late 19th century, deeper than the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys matchup with Philadelphia Eagles, and gives ammunition to more family arguments than preferring a Mac or PC. The bickering is well documented in cartoons. Before there was Tom and Jerry, there was always dog or cat. The battles have been fought over treats, cuddles, spots on the couch, and endless pet supply wars over who gets to drink first from the water bowl.

Sharing is hard to come by when you have a cat and a dog. But we at Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique see evidence of the feud simmering every day. Cats are retracting their claws. Dogs are wagging their tails. Pet supplies are being shared with dog’s offering their dog bed to cats. Cats are swatting their mouse toys into dog territory for dogs to play with too. Both animals remain confused by pet supply laser pointers. The war may be over soon.

The signs are clear. Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique offers this further piece of evidence into your speculation to show that cats and dogs can share pet supplies. It can happen. Today’s viral video is empirical confirmation that dogs and cats can live amongst each other in harmony. The video is called “Dog and kitten drinking water” and is currently number 50 on YouTube’s trending list. If it goes viral a cease-fire might be called. If it reaches 5 million views then this is a sign cats and dogs have settled their differences. Pet supplies everywhere will be for both the canines and felines of the world.

We hope you enjoy this cute video uploaded by Belituf Pets, and share it to help raise awareness on this senseless bickering. Cats and dogs are equal–both in cuteness and in dibs on pet supplies.

5 DIY Cat Hacks Every Pet Owner Should Know

Cat Hacks They Won’t Teach you at The Pet Shop

Cats can be weirdos sometimes, but they’re always part of the family. This viral video is brought to us by BuzzFeedVideo and is titled 5 Purrrfect Hacks Every Cat Owner Should Know. The video breaks down five simple DIY hacks pretty much anyone can make cheap and easy. The best thing is you don’t even have to visit a pet shop.

Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique has broken down each of the projects into simple directions for all the cat owners to follow out there.

Hack 1 Make a Puzzle Toy

Instructions:

You will need tupper ware, a knife, and some old cat toys. Cut three holes in the lid of the tupperware. Round off each hole with a torch lighter so they are not sharp. This ensures your cat doesn’t injure himself when playing. Then, simply place the cat’s toys in the tupperware with the lid on.

Hack 2 Minimalist Scratch Toy

Instructions:

You will need a wood frame, a durable carpet sample, and mounting tape. Place four strips of tape against the wooden frame and tape the carpet sample against it. Place the frame against the wall and boom–scratch post.

Hack 3 Portable Box Bed

Instructions:

This one is even easier than the last. Just take a cat-sized box and a comfy piece of cloth and add the two. The video doesn’t mention this but, you can even put one your old shirts in the box. Your kitty might be more drawn to it because the smell will make them comfortable.

Hack 4 No More Furniture Jumping

Instructions:

All you will need for this one is mounting tape. Easy. Slap a piece of tap on the armbands of the couch or chair you don’t want your cat to climb on. If your cat tries to jump on the furniture the sticky tape will deter them. No more cat hair on the couch!

Hack 5 T-Shirt Tent

Instructions:

You will need a piece of cardboard. Two hangers. T-Shirt, tape, and pliers. Tape across the cardboard to reinforce the durability. Cut off the top of the hangers and with the pliers bend them into an arch shape. Poke holes in each corner of the cardboard. Insert the hangers criss-cross from each other, and tape the frames together in the center to reinforce the structure. Next slide the T-Shirt over the whole thing. Now you’ve got a T-Shirt tent. Easy!

Hilarious Halloween Prank

Happy Halloween! Do You Have this Owner’s Pet Supplies?

Halloween season is here and we at Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique are excited to kick off the spooky holiday with some funny viral videos. This video was posted by the YouTube channel PRNK. It is titled, Owner Pranks Dog With Halloween Candy Bowl. This is exactly what happened. This poor Yorkie’s owner thought it would be funny to replace the dog bowl with an automated candy bowl. The kind of bowl designed to ward off trick-or-treaters.

Check Out the Prank

We’ve all seen them when trick-or-reating. The kids that take the whole bowl instead of just one candy. No fun! Candy bowls like this have a motion activator. The bowl scares trick-or-treaters as they reach into the candy bowl.  This method may or may not work. We don’t know, we just groom dogs.Watch as the Yorkie goes to take a bite of her food, and the automated puppet comes down.

Don’t worry! This doggie is anything but scared. He fearlessly barks at the puppet. It’s as if she’s saying “What the heck, this is my food! What even are you!?” to the spooky puppet. The dog doesn’t back off and keeps barking to defend his right to eat out of HIS bowl. Good for you little Yorkie. This bowl is not a traditional part of any household’s pet supplies, but we think it’s pretty entertaining. We cheered the Yorkie on the whole way through!

Store Spotlight- Suwanee, GA

Just outside of Atlanta, you will find the small town of Suwanee. It is a town of rolling hills and a laid back atmosphere. Our Splash and Dash location here is owned by Sandy Yeung. We wanted to give a spotlight to this store and give you an inside look into the location.

A Look Around the Store

The store sits next to a Publix in a little shopping plaza. From the outside you can see the decals which help to bring attention to the store.

suwaneespotlight01

When you walk into the store you will see that there are different stations throughout. To the right there are treats and food for your dog.

suwaneespotlight02

To the left you will find toys, shampoos and other supplies your dog may need.

suwaneespotlight03

And right in the center is a cute tea party themed place setting for dogs. On the table there are baked goods and behind that more toys for dogs.

suwaneespotlight04

There is even a kitty corner near the register where you can pick up all the necessities for your cat.

suwaneespotlight05

What Makes The Store Unique

Just as with all our other locations, Suwanee offers a full grooming salon and the signature bath membership. As you can see the store also has a wide assortment of products for pets. What makes this store unique, aside from the staff here, is this book.

suwaneespotlight06

This book was written by one of her customers who is a pediatrician. It is based on their Saint Bernard named Sheba. It is an adorable book that is perfect for younger children learning about bringing a dog into their home.

Their Involvement in the Community

The store is also very involved in the community. They sponsor a local swim team and even helped sponsor a 5k a few months back. Sandy’s goal is to get involved in the community as much as she can.  She would love to host an adoption event or other events at the store. If you are in the area and need to pick something up for your pet or they need to be groomed, stop by the store. Sandy will be more than happy to answer your questions and help you get just what you need for your dog.

Bring the Holidays Home This Month with Pet Stores

Dashing through the pet stores  in a one dog pickup truck, all the horns we blow, barking all the way! Bark, bark, bark!

Christmas is coming and it’s time to reward your dog for her loyalty, his playfulness, and the wonderful addition she has made to the family over the last year. There are so many things that you could do for your dog when the Christmas season comes around that it’s hard to imagine not knowing what to do. However, instead of just picking up your dog’s favorite bone from the store, here are a few other ideas that you can do instead of or in addition to your usual doggie Christmas gifts from the pet stores.

Dog Grooming dog_groomers

An excellent Christmas gift for any dog is a dog grooming trip. You can find grooming places inside of most pet stores . Not only is it fun and rejuvenating, but it is also good for your dog’s health. If you’re looking for a way to be fun and practical this Christmas, consider taking your dog to the groomers. This can help out pet parents in many ways. Dog grooming often takes a couple of hours depending on the size and coat of your dog as well as which services you’re going to get done. This can give you the chance to do Christmas shopping while your pup is being cleaned. Just remember that dog grooming  isn’t daycare so pick up your dog promptly once they’re done.

New Winter Jacket

If your pup has a tough time in the cold, consider getting her some new winter fashion from pet stores , but only do so if she needs the jacket or likes dressing up. If you’re getting her dog clothing for practical reasons (like to stay warm), remember that not all sweaters are created equally and many of them may not actually keep your dog warm.

pet_accessoriesDoggie Gift Basket

While at pet stores , pick up all of your dog’s favorite things from treats to toys to whatever else you can think of and arrange your own doggie gift basket. These can be fun and great ideas because you can specialize them with a large bakery good for an extra yummy treat while also putting in dog necessities like training treats. If your dog has any toys that need replacing, now is also a great time to do it during the Christmas season spending.

Filtered Doggie Bowl

While this might seem a bit extreme to some, filtered and fountain water bowls from the pet stores  actually offer health benefits to dogs and cats alike. It can encourage drinking where some animals have a tendency to dehydrate themselves. It has also been proven to help prevent urinary tract infections due to dirty water. What better gifts are there for the holidays than ones that are not only fun, but healthy?
