Santa Loving Dog Gets to Meet St. Nick

Pet News: Shiba Inu Puppy Meets Her Idol

Pet lovers everywhere do it. You start seeing the signs posted in the mall before Thanksgiving is even over. Pet News: Pose with Santa! You get the family, and of course the dog altogether, ugly Christmas sweaters and all, and wait to get your chance to tell Uncle Nick what you want for Christmas. It is the cornerstone of the many precursors all leading to December 25th, just as traditional as egg nog and lazing around watching football and re-runs of “The Christmas Story.”

However this pet news Inside Edition brings a special story to the countless magical stories of the season. A 1-year-old Shiba Inu named Kya absolutely loves Santa Claus. It all started when her owners—siblings John Montaldo (16), and Angelina (19)—bought her a Santa chew toy for Christmas. Kya absolutely loved the doll and pretty soon the two were inseparable. This is not for the first time for pet news—a dog finding the real live version of their chew toy, and, well, freaking out. In a good way!

We at Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique love reporting on happy pet news, and from the look on this little girl’s face, you can tell it is good news. The video was uploaded by Inside Edition, and is titled “Dog Obsessed With Santa Claus Can’t Stop Smiling When Meeting Her Idol at Mall.”

Please enjoy, and Merry Christmas!

People Stuck Their Head In Box Full of Puppies

Remarkable Pet News: BuzzFeed Built a Portal to Puppy Dimension

Yes, you read the headline correctly.

BuzzFeed out-cutified themselves, again.

We at Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique love BuzzFeed pet news videos because they take the most outlandishly cute ideas concerning pets and make them come to life. Today’s viral video shows what happens when you make a box, put some puppies into said box, then put people’s heads in said box via a hole.

Adorable events will ensue. It definitely challenges other headlines in pet news.

Today’s viral video is appropriately titled, “People Stick Their Head Through A Hole And Are Surprised With Puppies.” The video is a journey through the realm of pet news. A special place of dogs recently born with no sense of decency and a brimming curiosity for the talking heads coming up from the hole in their puppy-house.

Click and watch as BuzzFeed staff all put their head through the portal to enter the new domain of puppies and revolutionize the pet news world.

We at Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique think the facial expressions captured in this video are close to artistic. We hope you watch and enjoy!

Poor Dog Gets New Legs After Being Attacked

Pet News: Dog Gets New Legs and New Home

Warning:This video contains graphic dog rescue footage and may not be appropriate for young ages.

For every story of bravery and beauty in the world of pet news, you read stories about how horrible some people treat animals. Today’s viral video has both. The video tells us the story of Cola, a 9-month-old dog living in Thailand. The dog was brutally attacked by a neighbor who was seeking revenge for the dog chewing his shoes. Cola’s owner tried to pay for the shoes, but the neighbor couldn’t be reasoned with and “punished” the dog.

Cola lost her two front legs during the attack. Animal advocates partnering with the Soi Dog foundation were able to rescue Cola and get him to a veterinary clinic. Cola was treated for her injury and was able to get prosthetic legs that she is learning to walk and run with. What is even more heartwarming pet news is that Cola was adopted, and his new mommy has prosthetic legs too.

Reporters from Inside Edition state that the two enjoy long walks down the beach where Cola’s new home is. This is an amazing story that had a happy ending, but not all pet news shares the same ending as Cola’s. Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique shares videos like this to help bring awareness to suffering of animals worldwide and encourages those interested to get involved in their local rescues.

YouTube Channel Inside Edition uploaded this video titled “Dog Gets Prosthetics After Neighbor Horrifically Slashed His Legs With A Sword.”

DOT Ruled to Make Dog Relief Areas Easier for Pets

Pet News: The Days of Taking a Dog Outside in the Airport and Getting Back in Line are Over With New Department of Transportation Ruling for Post-Security Relief

Pet News

If you have ever taken your dog with you to travel you are not alone. In the past few years airports have seen a huge boost in people bringing their dogs for the ride. Therapy dogs, service animals, emotional support pups, K-9 teams, and pets are getting their wings along with their human comrades. Pet news puppies will be soaring.

Dog traffic in airports was so high that the Department of Transportation had to respond and enforce airports building pet relief stations after the security line with a summer deadline.

Before the ruling, if your pet had to “go,” you would need to take your dog outside to an animal relief area, then get back through the security line to make your flight. This will be a thing of the past.

Good Pet News for Dogs Traveling for the Holidays

The official ruling is that airports that serve over 10,000 passengers annually must now offer at least one relief area in the sterile, or post-security area of each terminal. The deadline for construction is set this summer 2017.

With John F. Kennedy having over 128 terminals, and Los Angeles Airport having 156 terminals, this means that there will be over 800 post-security animal relief areas nationwide. This is great pet news.

The cost of these new changes will be about $88 million over the next 20 years.

Trends Say It’s About Time

Many major city airports were already experiencing issues with the amount of dogs that come through the airport daily, and needing to make “business” accommodations.

Airports in San Diego, Washington-Dulles, Seattle, Minneapolis-St. Paul all had at least one relief station in their terminals before the ruling.

Already in pet news was August 5 which was “National Work Like A Dog Day,” the Los Angeles

International Airport added 7 indoor pet relief stations to the one it already had.

Aim at Convenience

Not only is the aim to convenience passengers, but also help with airport personnel who work alongside dogs.

K-9 teams–part of the airport police, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, United States Department of Agriculture, and the United States Department of Drug Enforcement Agency all regularly bring dogs through the airport.

The new ruling will make it easier on professional dogs as well as passenger’s dogs to “go.”

Example of What Stations Might Look Like

Pet news earlier this month showed Denver airport unveiling post-security pet relief stations in the center of concourses A, B, and C. The stations had artificial turf flooring, a drainage system, an artificial rock, and baggies & containers for disposal.

Also fun, each station had a pet friendly mural featuring a dog enjoying the outdoors in Colorado, so everyone has something nice to look at while their dog squats.

Stations like the Denver airports’ post-security pet relief areas might look like the ones featured in Colorado.

This is exciting pet news for passengers and our canine children.

Why Pet Owners Should Consider Aromatherapy

Pet Spa Treatment Reduces Pet Stress

Dogs interact with the world with their noses. During stressful times like trips to the veterinarian, or when neighbors launch fireworks, doggie stress increases. This is when dogs can show erratic behavior. When a dog is stressed they are more likely to bolt, run away, or constantly bark. These are instinctual behaviors for canines. Reasons like this are why pet spas exist.

Aromatherapy is a way to help soothe your pet. It offers a safe alternative to make your pet feel comfortable. Most dogs hate bath time. The feeling of being bathed is a foreign and stressful experience. By using aromatherapy during bath time, and other times of stress, pet owners can curb the anxiety their dogs feel.

This article outlines some of the pros of aromatherapy and how to get the most out of scented holistic remedies for a pet spa experience.

Alternative to Prescription Medication

As the number of pet owners in the U.S. rises, so do options in the industry. Recently, there has been a large pharmaceutical push toward using pet medication to alleviate stress. This can be effective and useful in certain cases, but can also be potentially problematic.

Every case is different, but many times using medication with your dog does not address the root of the problem. A clinical application can sometimes only develop a dependency on medication. Medications can also be overly expensive. Pet medication for stress or anxiety is contradictory as human medications. For the same reasons humans opt for hollistic remedy is why pet owners are choosing pet spa treatment and aromatherapy to help decrease the stress in their dog’slife.

Many canine professionals and pet owners have discovered more natural remedies like rotational diets, proper canine communication, and aromatherapy for pet spa treatments. Humans visit spas to relax and unwind from the pressures of life, dogs need this kind of attention too!

Pet Spa Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the therapeutic inhalation and topical application of pure essential oils. The properties of an infused botanical help restore and enhance health and wellness of a dog’s mental and physical health. Pure essential oils are highly concentrated from various natural raw plant material and promote the same health benefits.

After using aromatherapy remedies, owners can see the improvements in a dog’s nails and coat.

Aromatherapy has been around since 3,500 BC, but the term was first coined in the 1920’s. Recently, pet owners have begun to find about the relaxing properties of aromatherapy and have crafted safe products for our pooches.

To make 1 pound of lavender essential oils takes 200 pounds of lavender tops which are distilled. Because dogs have a sense of smell that is much stronger than humans it is important to dilute the oil even further with water.

Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique pet spa aromatherapy products have already been diluted with safe ratios that get the most benefit from essential oils without irritating dogs with overpowering scents.

Do not use products with synthetic fragrances like peach, apple, or strawberry. These aromas are not therapeutic and cause your dog harm. Headaches, agitation, and allergic reaction can take place with use of products like this–opposite of the goal of aromatherapy.

How Dogs Can Benefit

Dogs respond well to scent and touch. There noses are far more acute than humans. Calming sprays and grooming products induce a bonding experience when bathing, and pet owners can use aromatherapy for behavior modification. Spritz a few sprays of pet spa products to dog’s coats or a bandanna for effective use.

Calming scents with infused essential oil can provide comfort during storms, fireworks, travel, competition, adoptions, bath-time, vet or kennel visits, and holidays.

It is important to introduce scents during a non-threatening time so dogs do not associate the new smell with stressful times. Before bathing your dog with aromatherapy products let them smell it first, then soothe them by petting them before putting them in the bath. You want bath-time to be a pampering pet spa, not a wrestle to get clean.

5 DIY Cat Hacks Every Pet Owner Should Know

Cat Hacks They Won’t Teach you at The Pet Shop

Cats can be weirdos sometimes, but they’re always part of the family. This viral video is brought to us by BuzzFeedVideo and is titled 5 Purrrfect Hacks Every Cat Owner Should Know. The video breaks down five simple DIY hacks pretty much anyone can make cheap and easy. The best thing is you don’t even have to visit a pet shop.

Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique has broken down each of the projects into simple directions for all the cat owners to follow out there.

Hack 1 Make a Puzzle Toy

Instructions:

You will need tupper ware, a knife, and some old cat toys. Cut three holes in the lid of the tupperware. Round off each hole with a torch lighter so they are not sharp. This ensures your cat doesn’t injure himself when playing. Then, simply place the cat’s toys in the tupperware with the lid on.

Hack 2 Minimalist Scratch Toy

Instructions:

You will need a wood frame, a durable carpet sample, and mounting tape. Place four strips of tape against the wooden frame and tape the carpet sample against it. Place the frame against the wall and boom–scratch post.

Hack 3 Portable Box Bed

Instructions:

This one is even easier than the last. Just take a cat-sized box and a comfy piece of cloth and add the two. The video doesn’t mention this but, you can even put one your old shirts in the box. Your kitty might be more drawn to it because the smell will make them comfortable.

Hack 4 No More Furniture Jumping

Instructions:

All you will need for this one is mounting tape. Easy. Slap a piece of tap on the armbands of the couch or chair you don’t want your cat to climb on. If your cat tries to jump on the furniture the sticky tape will deter them. No more cat hair on the couch!

Hack 5 T-Shirt Tent

Instructions:

You will need a piece of cardboard. Two hangers. T-Shirt, tape, and pliers. Tape across the cardboard to reinforce the durability. Cut off the top of the hangers and with the pliers bend them into an arch shape. Poke holes in each corner of the cardboard. Insert the hangers criss-cross from each other, and tape the frames together in the center to reinforce the structure. Next slide the T-Shirt over the whole thing. Now you’ve got a T-Shirt tent. Easy!

U.S. Soldier Adopts Dog from Iraq

Pet News: No Soldier Left Behind

This is a beautiful story in pet news. A video of a feature done by CBS SF Bay Area–the Bay Area, the  local San Francisco local news station–found an amazing story about a very lucky doggie, and a very loving soldier. The story is about Army Specialist Ken Wyrsch who was stationed in Iraq fighting alongside a Kurdish military outfit.

Wyrsch and his fellow soldiers found a stray dog, they affectionately named Ollie. Ollie is a German Shepherd and was most likely used as target practice by terrorists, or at least that was what Wyrsch best guest was. The US soldiers adopted Ollie and he stayed at their military base.

“He was a morale booster,” said Wyrsch. “He was there we when we left on missions, and there when we got back.”

When it came time for the soldiers to leave the base, Wyrsch was worried that they were going to have to leave Ollie to fend for himself. He couldn’t let that happen. Wyrsch contacted SPCA International and the agency was able to send Ollie all the way across the world. Wyrsch picked his old buddy up from the cargo depot and now Ollie has a new home in California.

The pet news video ends with Ollie climbing up to Wyrsch chest to give him a huge hug of thank you.

“How you doin?” Wyrsch asks Ollie as he licks his face. “Yeah good to see you.” The soldier and newly adopted dog look like a match made in heaven.

We at Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique loved the ending to this story, and we hope you enjoy watching the video!

Police Body Cam Captures Dog Rescue

Police Body Cam Captures Dog Rescue

An astounding video of pet news was filmed in Cleveland and shows a video of a dog being rescued from the city’s sewer system. The entire video was filmed off an officer’s body cam which gives the video an engaging perspective. Viewers can watch the whole video from the officer’s perspective.

Edna Sutton was walking her dog Daphne when the poor dog fell down a sewage drain. Daphne is a senior dog and is blind in both eyes. Sutton called 911. She heard splashing at first, but then started to panic after she only heard silence coming from the sewer drain.

The dispatcher told her no one could come out to help, but 5th district police officers were able to arrive to help. The officer pried opened a nearby manhole where they were able to locate the dog. The 5th district officers phoned detective Sean Smith–a local sheriff that’s a dog lover. Detective Smith is the founder of Badges for Bullies, a non-profit pit bull rescue that makes pet news for the amazing charitable work they do.

The detective arrived at the scene to help. An officer crawled down the manhole and was thankfully able to rescue Daphne. The dog was a little scared, and a lot more dirty. This lucky little doggie is a hero in pet news, and we’re glad she made it out OK. Daphne and her owner have been a team for twenty years, and Sutton would have been horrified if anything happened to her dog.

The video was uploaded by PoliceActivity and is titled, Bodycam Shows Cops Rescuing Dog from Sewer Drain.

Meet Zeus Officially the Biggest Dog in the World

There are a lot of contenders for the biggest dog in the world, but Zeus the Great Dane holds the record. At the time Zeus achieved the record, he was 44 inches tall, making him tower over kitchen tables. For perspective Zeus was about ⅔ as tall as your average NFL quarterback, making him come up to their chests on all fours. Zeus could have easily stood over Tom Brady if he was on his hind legs.

Zeus weighed 155 lbs. But his owners in Michigan loved letting him sit in their laps. Zeus was so big, his owners simply tuned on the kitchen sink when he was thirsty. He was tall enough to easily drink from the faucet like a water fountain!

With having a huge dog big enough to set world records, comes paying a little extra. Zeus’s owners stated that the dog could eat through 30 lb dog bags every two weeks. The family also had to buy a van and remove the seats to transport the big guy. Zeus was way too big to fit in a sedan by any means. We  were wondering what it was like for Zeus’s dog grooming. How long did it take to wash that big guy? His owners would joke that he is half horse.

Zeus tragically passed away at the age of five. But his owner say “We’ll really miss him.” The huge dog is remembered fondly, and passed from old age. The large breed Great Danes have an average lifespan of six to eight years. We in the dog grooming industry know that larger breeds tend to have short lifespans, but we we think Zeus was incredible.

Vet Ranch with an Amazing Ending

Vet Ranch Video Show Dog Being Saved with Amazing Ending

Warning: Video Contains Graphical Surgical Footage

The ASPCA states 3.9 million stray animals enter shelters every year. This number is heartbreaking to us at Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique, but videos like this give us hope.

We love sharing these videos. Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique want to help bring awareness to the staggering amount of rescues out there. The aim is for viewers to watch so more dogs can find loving homes.

Our Most Dramatic Ending Ever

The video was posted by the Vet Ranch–a nonprofit veterinary clinic that works with Dallas Services. It is titled, Our Most Dramatic Ending Ever!!, and the drama is true, and truly endearing.

The video features Winfrey, who was rescued by Dallas Services. Vet Employees believe Winfrey was hit by a car. The poor dog had multiple puncture wounds around his neck, pelvic area, and mouth. Dallas Services labeled Winfrey dangerous, because he was biting. This is a sign that he was in major pain. Employees and veterinarians were  cautious when handling Winfrey.  They initially had to use a muzzle every time they examined him.

The Vet Ranch sedated and took X-rays of Winfrey.  It turned out he  had multiples fractures in his pelvis and legs. Winfrey also had a dislocation, and arthritis. This told Dr. Karry–Winfrey’s Vet–that he was an older dog. The dog was also not neutered. This makes strays more prone to roam and fight with other dogs.

Winfrey was fitted with an IV drip of pain medication to ease his journey to recovery. Vet Ranch veterinarians reset his fractures, and placed a screw through his pelvis to hold the bones in place. Winfrey was also neutered and received heartworm surgery. This is all part of extensive pet care.

After a few weeks of healing Winfrey’s radiograph showed that the pin holding his pelvic bones in place dislodged. Vets put the poor guy back on the operating table so they could remove the pin.

Without removal, the pin would have caused him more pain. During his healing process, Winfrey was placed on strict exercise restriction.  This ensured he could heal properly.

Winfrey Heals up

Dr. Karry announced that after healing Winfrey was like a brand new dog. He was so sweet and was no longer biting. Winfrey is currently awaiting a loving home, and is running around like the happy dog he was meant to be. This was all so heart-warming, but what happens next is really special!
